A community gathering is set to take place in Allen to pay tribute to the victims and survivors of the devastating shooting that took the lives of eight people on May 6, 2023.

The remembrance is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on May 6, 2024, at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center (200 E Stacy Road #1350, Allen, TX 75002). The agenda will feature presentations by the Allen High School choir and Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, in addition to a period of interfaith contemplation.

The Allen Philharmonic Orchestra's piece, "In Lumine," was specifically commissioned by the community orchestra to honor the eight individuals who died. This composition features eight soloists from the orchestra, each representing one of the victims with instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola and cello.

The composition was crafted by Lane Harder, a senior lecturer and co-chair of Music Theory and Composition at the Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University.

In addition to the evening remembrance event, a citywide moment of silence will be observed in Allen at 3:36 p.m. on May 6, 2024.

The remembrance event will be free and open to the public, no tickets are required. Attendees must abide by the facility’s prohibited items and clear bag policies available for review at CUTXEventCenter.com.

Several days after the May 6 shooting, a makeshift memorial went up off Stacy Road. Crosses with black ribbons as well as white crosses from which hang markers for those grieving to leave messages on blue hearts. The memorial continued to grow, with larger crucifixes going up on the afternoon of May 8.

On May 16, 2023, the memorial was taken down, however, the city of Allen said a permanent memorial would be planned for the site. The city has not yet released a plan for a memorial.
