Mark your calendars now for the engaging exhibit “A Celebration of the American Bride: A look at the history and traditions of weddings.” It will be held during the week of June 2–7 at High Street Antique Mall in Plano.

Special presenter is Steven Porterfield, a renowned textile expert and Antiques Road Show appraiser. He has also provided clothing for shows such as Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey.

Among the highlights of the event, on Friday, June 5 at 3:30 p.m. Mr. Porterfield will present a lecture on wedding traditions from the Victorian era through the Edwardian era. There is no charge and light refreshments will be served.

Enjoy a bridal tea on Saturday, June 6. Seating begins at 3 p.m. Reservations are required. Mr. Porterfield will present a wedding fashion show featuring a collection of gowns and period clothing.

The cost is $25 per person, which includes a three-course tea complete with wedding cake and a toast to all brides. Guests not participating in the tea are welcome to view the fashion show, however room is limited. Call The Chocolate Angel at High Street 972.904.9597 for reservations.

A meet and greet with Mr. Porterfield will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 3:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public. In addition to having vintage clothing for sale, he will have hats and other items from the Downton Abbey era on display and will discuss his role with Antiques Road Show as well as other TV shows and films he has advised.

Marilyn Harris, who along with Regina Wittenberg owns Chic Cherie Vintage Boutique located in High Street Antique Mall, helped organize this unique bridal tea and fashion show. Her store is well-known for vintage clothing, jewelry, hats, gloves and furs.

Harris said, “The entire mall will be participating in the Celebration of the American Bride. The tearoom will be decorated for a wedding reception, dealers will present their finest items on wedding gift display tables, and a collection of antique and collectible wedding items will be on display. There will be door prizes, music demonstrations and other lectures, as well as many other surprises.”
