After more than a year of construction, FedEx Office celebrated the grand opening of its new world headquarters in West Plano on October 28. The 265,000-square-foot corporate campus, part of the Legacy West development on Legacy Drive just south of State Highway 121, consolidates two existing FedEx Office facilities in Dallas and Plano. About 1,200 employees are moving to the new location.

The “green” complex is LEED certified and features LED lighting, paperless hand dryers in restrooms, battery-operated car parking stations, and ergonomically-designed workstations featuring sit-or-stand desks. Flexible training areas will accommodate everything from small classroom-size meetings to large employee town halls. A mock store, modeled after the FedEx Office Small Center, will allow for testing of new printing equipment and packing and shipping products.

New moms—or anyone who needs a break—will appreciate “quiet rooms.” The on-site cafeteria will serve breakfast and lunch, and will feature private dining space, a juice bar, and a variety of menu choices including seasonal and Texas-sourced foods, brick-oven pizza, and made-to-order items. Other amenities include designated parking spots for expectant mothers, and a nearly mile-long walking trail.

FedEx Office worked in collaboration with developer KDC, architecture firm HKS, construction company Balfour Beatty, and interior-design company HOK to complete the campus. Toyota North America and Liberty Mutual Insurance are also in the construction phase at the Legacy West development, which will include restaurants, retail and residential facilities within walking distance of corporate campuses.
