About Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

The Heard is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit and was founded in 1967 by Bessie Heard. Miss Heard was 80 years old when she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could experience nature. Today, the Heard’s mission of bringing nature and people together is carried out through education, particularly of young people, which emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation.

Steve Beavers

Dallas native Steve Beavers wears a lot of hats (but not a cowboy hat, as you might expect of a guy who was born and raised in Texas) in his role at Plano Profile. Technically, he’s the Creative Director, but he’s also a writer, a member of the editorial staff, and as one of only two men at the office, a lifter of heavy objects and a changer of light bulbs. In his spare time, Steve plays the drums and, when he’s sure nobody’s around, sings at the same time. His other interests include collecting books and records (which in turn collect dust), watching old movies, and starting major home-improvement projects. He aspires to actually finish them someday.
