Prom is a day most girls look forward to years before it arrives. It’s a day to get dolled up, toss on a pair of high heels and wear more makeup than any average day. A day filled with glamour and fun.

St. Andrew United Methodist Church has made this event a possibility for any girl who wants to attend! They’re hosting their 8th annual FREE Prom Closet March 1–3 from 4–8 p.m. and March 5 from 9 a.m.–noon at their Smith Worship Center in Plano for any girl in-need of a dress, shoes and/or accessories.

Cool fact: In its first year, the Prom Closet provided 35 dresses to local high-school girls, and last year, 840 girls received dresses and accessories.

High-school girls from anywhere are invited, so be sure and spread the word! St. Andrew is already stocked with dresses and accessories including  jewelry, handbags, shoes and wraps, thanks to generous community members, local groups, corporations and businesses donations. Dresses sized 0 to 28 are available to choose from, many of which have never been worn.

“This year is the eighth year of the Prom Closet, organized by the St. Andrew United Methodist Women, and it has proven to be a wonderful way to reach out and serve the community,” said Devra Helffrich, an original organizer of the Prom Closet. “The impact the dress makes on the girl and her family is simply immeasurable. We continue to be grateful each year for the media coverage which is critical in getting the word out. Last year, we were excited to have visitors from Durant, Oklahoma, who were so impressed they went back to their church, presented the idea and are hosting a prom closet this year!”

Area school counselors have been provided information on their campuses. Students must be present to shop for selection of dress and accessories.

On shopping days, please park in the east parking lot off of Mira Vista and look for Prom Closet signs.

Interested in donating? St. Andrew UMC accepts dresses and accessories year-round at their drop-off in Room #133 at the church.
