According to Historic Downtown Plano, by Janice Craze Cline, Edward A. Carpenter was born in 1871, the son of pioneer settlers Robert Washington “R.W.” and Lizzie Mathews Carpenter. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and bought the Schoolfield’s drugstore in the W.D. McFarlin building on the north side of Mechanic Street (15th Street) in 1895. In 1908, Carpenter sold the drugstore to the Allen brothers, who ran it for 31 years.
