Plano-Richardson Alumnae Panhellenic (PRAP) awarded $1,000 scholarships to six local young women for the 2016–2017 academic year. Three 2016 high school graduates and three collegians were selected, and the honorees were introduced at the association’s annual “Scholarships and Salads” meeting on May 18. The scholarship recipients are Gracie Glendinning, Callie Haworth, McKenna Karnes, Caroline Anderson, Mary Kate Fairley, and Emily Means.
Gracie Glendinning is a 2012 graduate of Plano Senior High School and is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing from Baylor University. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi where she served most recently as Sing and Pigskin Revue chairman. Gracie is the daughter of Klare and David Glendinning.
Callie Haworth is a 2014 graduate of Plano Senior High School and is a student at Southwestern University where she is preparing for a career as a physician’s assistant. She has held the positions of fraternity education chairman and corresponding secretary for Zeta Tau Alpha. Callie is the daughter of Julie and Bryan Haworth.
McKenna Karnes is a 2013 graduate of Plano West Senior High School and has completed her junior year at Southern Methodist University, where she is pursuing majors in math and dance performance and minors in business and physics. She is currently the philanthropy chairman for Chi Omega. McKenna is the daughter of Julie and Mike Karnes.
Caroline Anderson is a 2016 graduate of Richardson High School. She will attend University of Texas at Austin in the fall where she will major in chemistry. Caroline is the daughter of Suzanne and Cole Anderson.
Mary Kate Fairley is a 2016 graduate of Plano West Senior High School and will attend University of Arkansas Honors College this fall pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. Mary Kate is the daughter of Melissa and Gregg Fairley.
Emily Means is a 2016 graduate of Plano West Senior High School. She will attend Texas Tech University this fall where she will study agricultural communications. Emily is the daughter of Debi and Michael Means.
“We are extremely proud of this year’s scholarship recipients,” stated Diane Goebel, scholarship committee chairman. “We were overwhelmed with applications from some very accomplished young women, and the selection process was very competitive. Applications are evaluated based upon their extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service, personal goals, and academic excellence.”
PRAP president Barbara Wooley added, “Our whole year is geared toward raising funds for these May scholarship awards. We love to hand them out, knowing that we have helped the recipients along in their quest for a college education and a productive place in this world.” Plano-Richardson Alumnae Panhellenic is an organization of more than 100 women dedicated to promoting inter-fraternity friendship and collaboration. PRAP is affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) and serves the young women residing in the Plano and Richardson school districts. Membership is open to alumnae of the 26 NPC member sororities, and members meet monthly for social activities, informative programs, and fundraising events.
