Explore Plano City of Plano challenge

Continue to Explore Plano with us this week! Whether you’re looking for something fun for the kids or just an excuse to get out of the house, Explore Plano has it. This week, we’re highlighting challenges by the Plano Parks and Recreation Department. Challenges include visiting the interactive tree located inside the Oak Point Park Nature and Retreat Center, going down the water slide at a rec center, and sharing what makes Plano Parks and Rec meaningful for you. Get the details and the list of other challenges at plano.gov/exploreplano and use the hashtag #ExplorePlano as you share your progress.

Have you ever visited the 7,000-square-foot Oak Point Park Nature and Retreat Center? If so, then you’ve probably noticed the one-of-a-kind interactive oak tree right as you walk into the lobby. This interactive exhibit will allow you to explore the park’s history, the plants and animals that call Oak Point Park home, and the hydrological and geological features that make Oak Point Park unique and special. While you’re there, take a walk along the trails behind the facility and share a photo of some wildlife or a landscape shot of the beautiful scenery. Be sure to check out the hours of operation before heading out. If you’re craving more adventures after completing this challenge then be sure to check out some of the other free classes that Oak Point Park Nature and Retreat Center is offering this summer! Choose from free upcoming classes such as Amble Around Arbor Hills, Bird Walk, Family Night Hike and more!

If you’re searching for an excuse to stay cool, then look no further than one of Plano’s pools. Ask a friend or parent to get a photo of you flying down one of the recreation center waterslides at Tom Muehlenbeck or Oak Point Recreation Center. If you really want to go big, get a photo going down the huge waterslide at the new Jack Carter Pool which will reopen later this summer. The Plano Parks and Recreation Department offers a number of places to swim, so be sure to check out the full list of indoor and outdoor pools that are available to the public. Get the recreation center and pool hours before you head out to complete this challenge.

We all have our own favorite places in Plano. Maybe you enjoy visiting your favorite park, admiring nature on your favorite trail or hitting the gym at your favorite recreation center. Show some love by sharing a photo that depicts what makes Plano Parks and Recreation meaningful for you. It could be your favorite spot at the park, your go-to lane at a pool, or your favorite recreation center employee. Share your story and experience by posting a photo with hashtag #exploreplano.

Check back next week as we highlight the Plano Public Library System’s challenges.
