Through her generous spirit and positive attitude, Amy D. Wehr, Independent Creative Leader for Initials, Inc., launched a fundraiser called Bags of  Hope to clothe sexual assault survivors during their stay at the hospital. Amy raised enough funds to present The Turning Point with 64 bags and $750 articles of clothing. On June 27, 2016, she excitedly presented the bags and a check to the staff of The Turning Point.

The Turning Point is often times the first point of hope a survivor experiences after a trauma. The nonprofit organization dispatches highly trained volunteers who act as advocates to accompany survivors. “Our advocates bring a bag with clothes, personal necessities and a journal to sexual violence survivors,” said Jen Fannuci, Volunteer/SANE Coordinator at The Turning Point.

Amy shared, “It saddened me to learn that a victim of sexual assault would have to leave their clothes behind as evidence at the hospital. I just can’t imagine leaving my clothes behind after such a horrible ordeal.”

Liz Ennis, Community Outreach Coordinator praised Amy’s efforts. “We are so grateful to Amy! It takes people like Amy, who strive to make our community a better place, to create a conversation about sexual assault, and to fight against it.”

The Turning Point Rape Crisis Center of Collin County provides counseling, education, and advocacy to individuals impacted by sexual assault.
