This month, let’s explore August’s American food holidays: National S’mores Day, National Rum Day, National Filet Mignon Day and National Apple Week are just a few. National Peach Month and National Panini Month especially piqued our interest. So, we set out to find the best peach product and panini in Plano.

The Greatest Sandwich

When you walk in, your senses are hit with the overwhelming and delicious smell of fresh bread. Great Harvest Bread Company opened up shop in Plano in 2012 and has been treating us to a wonderful world of home-baked goods ever since. I’m talking, they grind their wheat in the bakery level of awesome. And, they have a patio.

Get a little sun while you dine.

Logan Despain, Owner of Great Harvest, brought back the best type of sandwich just a few months ago and in perfect timing to represent National Panini Month. Great Harvest switched over to toasted sandwiches for a couple of years, but knew something was missing…the famous panini grill marks and crisp crust. Logan said, “Customers have loved them ever since their return.” I’m glad they’re back too. They are, after all, the greatest sandwich.

The Tuscan Chicken Panini is a favorite among regular customers. Picture this: aged provolone melted over grilled chicken, complemented with onion, lettuce, tomatoes and a made-in-bakery sundried tomato pesto.

Paninis are $8.49 for a full sandwich, or $6.49 for a half. But, if you don’t go for the full, you’ll wish you had more to bite off.

Great Harvest is a full bakery-café serving up healthy meals, fresh breads, sandwiches and sweets made from scratch and all-natural ingredients. “We make [our baked goods] just like you would at home—one ingredient (that you can pronounce!) at a time.”

A favorite at Great Harvest is the Cinnamon Burst Bread.

They also offer salads, soups and wraps. Pick each item up at their freshest by checking their website for the day each item is baked. However, most are baked daily like their best sellers, Honey Whole Wheat Bread and Cinnamon Burst Bread, a tasty sweet bread.
