Plano Senior High School’s 5th annual “Maroon Out for the Military” game to honor fallen soldiers from Collin County will be hosted tonight at Clark Stadium, Plano Senior High vs. Irving’s MacArthur High School.

“Maroon Out for the Military” honors 364 men and women from Collin County who gave their lives in service to their country. Football players will wear on their jerseys the names and service patch of 70 of these service members. Included among those to be honored are recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross, as well as a repatriated solder from McKinney, who was MIA for 32 years.

In attendance will be several family members of the fallen as well as US Marine Cpl. Jacob Schick who played a role in the movie American Sniper and who serves as executive director for a veterans’ nonprofit called 22Kill, which raises awareness about veteran suicide and mental health issues such as PTSD. According to a 2012 study by the Department of Veterans Affairs, 22 veterans commit suicide each day.

Over the years, “Maroon Out for the Military” has featured a student service component which has raised nearly $15,000 for veterans’ initiatives. This year, they will be “passing the boot” during first quarter in support of Dallas Fisher House, where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving medical treatment.
