For more than 10 years, North Texans have turned to Emmy award-winning meteorologist Pete Delkus for his steadfast dedication to deliver the most accurate forecasts. When there’s a looming weather crises, you know Pete is rolling up his sleeves to get to work, ensuring television viewers—as well as his 85,000 Facebook fans and 139,000 Twitter followers—know when and where to take precaution.

As Chief Meteorologist for WFAA-TV, Channel 8, Pete admits, the first thing he does each morning is check his Twitter account, @wfaaweather, to tweet about the forecast, post a beautiful skyscape, or facetiously take credit for a school closing, due to bad weather. Pete has taken social media by storm. There’s even a Twitter account (@DelkusSleeves) that monitors if Pete’s sleeves are rolled up, as well as a Facebook page hailing Pete as St. Delkus, a weather god. He’s one-of-a-kind; he’s the real deal…not that you should measure a man by his social media fanfare, but guess what? Pete also lives in Plano, so to us, he’s kind of a big deal.

IMG_4776We’re especially intrigued by Pete’s all-star college and professional baseball career, which included six years in the Minnesota Twins organization and a trip to the College World Series. Pete was an All-America, sidearm-style pitcher with a fastball in the mid-80s. (Scouts tend to pick pitchers who light up the radar gun in the 90s.)
