Frisco officially streamlined its residents' outdoor watering schedule. Last night, the Frisco City Council approved the city's new water management plan that clarifies the seasons by specifying dates.
In Frisco, the outdoor watering schedule was simplified with specific guidelines for each season. The water management plan also encompasses the year-round outdoor watering schedule. In the summer months, residents have the flexibility to water twice a week: once on their regular trash day and again on a second, designated watering day. For spring and fall, outdoor watering is restricted to one day per week, corresponding to the resident's designated trash pickup day. Throughout winter, no outdoor watering of turfgrass, whether through rotor or spray nozzles, is permitted.
"The simplified schedule also will be easier for homeowners to use consistently, which ultimately helps us conserve water,” said Utilities Superintendent, Public Works Ron Garcia in an official statement.
During spring, which spans from April 1 to May 31, residents are permitted to water their lawns one day per week, aligned with their regular trash pickup day. As summer arrives from June 1 to Aug. 31, watering allowances increase to two days per week, incorporating both the regular trash day and a designated additional day.
Transitioning into fall, from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, the watering schedule reverts to one day per week in line with the regular trash day. Throughout winter, spanning from Nov. 1 to March 31, watering is prohibited to conserve water resources.
The prohibited outdoor watering hours remain unchanged; automatic irrigation is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, drip irrigation, bubblers and micro irrigation systems are still permitted when necessary. Weekly watering advisories will continue to be issued every Monday.
Reports of water waste can be submitted by city employees or members of the public through the myFRISCO app, telephone or email. Violations will be documented using electronic photographs and stored for review purposes.
For initial violations, residential properties will incur a $100 administrative fee on the subsequent water bill, while commercial properties will face a $200 fee. However, this fee may be waived for residential customers or credited upon completion of a complimentary sprinkler checkup or an online class specified by the city of Frisco.
