A review of Toyota's first year in Plano

Just over a year ago, Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (TMNA) opened its doors to its new headquarters in Plano. This was the biggest change the company has made since opening a U.S. sales office 61 years ago.

This was the biggest change the company has made since opening a U.S. sales office 61 years ago. The Toyota Motor North America headquarters in Plano is the first time engineering, sales and marketing, financial services and corporate functions are under the one roof.

Over the past year, Toyota Motor North America has had an economic impact of $7.2 billion, partnered with many local organizations, won awards and hosted many events. Below are just a few of the many ways Toyota Motor North America has effected Plano.

Toyota Motor North America charity

On its opening, Toyota Motor North America didn’t even hesitate to start making an impact. On the evening of the opening event, Toyota Motor North America announced the winner of the $1 million Toyota Impact Grant –  Collin County Mobility Collaborative. The Collin County Mobility Collaborative is a group made up of Agape Resource and Assistance Center, Family Promise of Collin County, Hope’s Door New Beginning Center, and Shiloh Place of McKinney. Toyota Motor North America goes green

In September 2017, just three months after opening, Toyota Motor North America was recognized for its sustainability efforts. Toyota Motor North America achieved LEED Platinum status from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and Toyota’s campus is the largest LEED Platinum project in Texas. Read more here.

Toyota Motor North America community events

Toyota Motor North America has hosted a number of community events. In April, the Junior League of Collin County hosted executives from Toyota Motor North America and PepsiCo for a fireside chat about inclusivity. The Junior League of Collin County aimed to inspire, engage and discuss cultural dynamics within the community. More information about the event here.

Even more recently, Toyota Motor North America hosted an event in which the central theme was STEM education and the future of business in North Texas. The Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) and Toyota USA Foundation put on a panel that discussed the importance of STEM and why more students should take STEM-related coursework.
