Plano ISD Board of Trustees members, district officials and city leaders from Plano and Dallas met Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, to break ground at 6210 Mapleshade Ln. in Dallas where Plano ISD’s second Welcome and Enrollment Center will operate.

The 11,000-square-foot facility will provide Plano ISD students and their families with services aimed at fostering a stronger relationship between schools in the district, families and their communities.

“This center is a tangible expression of our belief that education extends far beyond the classroom,” Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams said in a statement. “It is about creating an environment that addresses not only academic needs but also social and emotional aspects of a student’s life.”

Services provided by the center will include enrollment, transfers and notarization of district documents for students, connection to community resources and counseling and family engagement services. Additionally, the facility will offer community and social services such as a clothes closet, a food pantry, services for families in transition support, mobile enrollment and education lab, diversity liaison and health fairs.

Families will also have access to health and wellness services at the facility including screening of immunization records for school enrollment and on-site immunization for Plano ISD students who qualify.

“This building represents a beacon of hope and a promise to our community–a promise that we will continue to innovate, invest and strive for excellence in providing the best possible educational experience for every child,” said Williams.

This is not the first time Plano ISD has shown interest in strengthening the district’s partnership with the community and the families it serves. Another Wellcome and Enrollment center has operated at the Bird Center, 1300 19th St. in Plano since 2021, offering in-person assistance to families looking to enroll students in the district. The new center is expected to be completed in December 2024.
