Seven Collin College Students Win Gold At Texas SkillsUSA

Excelling in diverse fields, they advance to national competition

Collin College students triumphed at the Texas SkillsUSA Postsecondary Competition in Houston from April 18 to 20, 2024, securing seven gold medals and clinching spots in the national competition in Atlanta, Georgia, this June. This is Collin College students' second time participating in the SkillsUSA arena.

SkillsUSA is a workforce development organization for students, shaping them into skilled professionals and leaders. With almost 400,000 participants nationwide, it offers hands-on training in various fields while instilling crucial career-ready skills. Founded in 1965, SkillsUSA has served over 14.6 million members. Guided by values like integrity and community, it promotes diversity and inclusion in all its endeavors.

The competition, a platform dedicated to honing personal, workplace and technical skills, drew participation from 35 Collin College students. Of these, 14 were awarded gold, silver or bronze medallions commemorating their accomplishments. 

Joshua Meza of Mesquite, Neven Campos of Denton, Michael White of New Orleans, Nicole Bellin of Plano, Logan Mattson of Plano, Christian Pearce of Frisco and Tristan Lance of Little Elm emerged as the gold medalists from Collin College. They showcased their proficiency in automotive refinishing technology, automotive service technology, graphic design, photography and welding abrication, among other disciplines.

Among the standout achievers were seven gold medalists from Collin College, who emerged victorious in various categories and secured an opportunity to compete in the national SkillsUSA competition in June in Atlanta, Georgia. The welding fabrication team from Collin College also clinched first place.
